Direct Access

no prescRiption required

assessment and treatment in a timely manner

In New York State, direct access offers patients the ability to go to physical therapy without a prescription from their primary care physician.  This enables you to receive treatment for musculoskeletal and vestibular issues in a timely manner.  You can be seen without a prescription for 30 days or a total of 10 visits which ever comes first.

When you are in pain, you want effective treatment provided in a timely manner.  The purpose of direct access is to expedite this process and allow a physical therapist to properly assess and treat the source of your pain or discomfort quickly.

In addition, a visit to the doctor’s office may result in X-rays, MRIs and prescriptions for pain relievers that can mask the symptoms, result in high cost, and leave the problem unresolved.   This further delays you receiving care.  Often, for musculoskeletal issues, your doctor may eventually refer you to physical therapy anyway.

working together with your physician

healing you is the goal

The ultimate goal is to work with your primary care physician to provide you with relief and heal your issue.  I will share status updates and medical information with your primary care physician to provide the best possible outcome.

cost savings can be significant

time and  money

Starting the process directly with physical therapy can result in significant savings in terms of time and money and help you to start to feel better sooner.  In order to diagnose an issue, the doctor may refer you to multiple visits of imaging, X-rays, MRIs, and prescription medicines.  This process can involve multiple visits even before treatment begins.  In the end, you may be referred to physical therapy to pinpoint and treat your issue.
